I watched Sammy's last two test innings with my two sons and one of the said, quite innocently, " this guy can't bat". I said, "Yep. We all know that. But he was appointed captain and guaranteed a spot over more deseverving players."
My American born kids, who see and play a LOT of competitive sports and understand the concept of MERIT and working hard to get where you want - could not understand a scenario where a person who can't make the team becomes captain for life.
I introduced my kids to Chris Gayle and Samuels and took them to see Lara, Shiv and Sarwan play. I wanted to introduce them to the best WI players and watched West Indies cricket on TV with them. I wanted them to enjoy and support WI cricket, even if we were losing.
After watching the India vs West Indies series. I got comments like. "So this Sammy dude is playing but a guy like Sarwan can't make this team? Dad, YOU can bat better than this joker!".
My older son told me, "Sorry Dad. I can't support a team that doesn't play to win and doesn't pick the best team. And they are always looking to push out the good players of Indian origin. I'm backing India here". His new cricketing heros are Rohit Sharma, Pujara and Kohli.
After this test series, I gave up trying to convince them that WI cricket is watchable.
Than you DOTTIES! You facking ruined it for the next generation too.

Good to know the young man has a mind of his own---looks like he has picked up some of his daddy's genes. ;D
By the way, the Rev no longer supports the West Indies in onedayers---after Shiv was unceremoniously dropped---I stopped supporting the WI in onedayers----but I still support them in tests---Shiv' still playing tests. ;D

Your Son makes much more sense, why isn't he a selector yet, Babulall? I mean he's right now much more intelligent than those a$$clowns. Listen, morons.
And I bet he'd make a better coach too.

It used to be that the Cappo was selected and announced before any upcoming series.
Since H&H it appears Sammy is there like Ottiss on an ongoing basis....
Sammy is clueless ... like the Selectors .... like the Coach. I give up !!!
SA or ENG ... here I come !!! :-[

Sammy, who scored 25 runs and bowled 21 wicketless overs :
over four innings in the series, continues to captain the side.

I agree with comments here..mostly..almost entirely save the pushing out of players of Indo origin. I may be biased the other way but I don't see that as fact.
if Rampaul is not on the side he has often been injured and Buttsy backside an' dem have been consistent with that. they lost Taylor somewhere and he has not been seen since.
Roach is out of the picture currently even if he was taken to India more in hope than anything else. now that he is out, the fact that he too has been often injured may play against him just as much as it played against Taylor and now Rampaul.
I justify Rampaul because he takes wickets. you almost rely on him for a couple, 3 wickets at the top of the innings. he often produces the wicket taking ball for breaking partnerships. I would go a long way for that in current west indian poverty..and for that reason I would go to lengths to have Rampaul on the side always.
but the injuries is a pain in the arse. how can you keep your program going if one of your key men is always MIA?
Ramdin is another one! look at that innings he uncorked at the last minute?
that was class batting, commanding. we need that from Ramdin at least 4 out of 10 innings..or better 3 and a half out of 10..par for keepes in the annals.
but where in the hell does Ramdin hide that class most of the time....and we know he is that good for he has scored powerfully every now and then?
Ramdin has batted like that about for what... 1 in 10 ::confused:: and he is still in the side..and is lined up to be the next captain..and he is the right choice. he has been made vice captain by the wicb bums and at least there is some suggestion in that, that he will succeed Sammy.
it is fair to argue that had ramdin been at 35 average he would have been appointed and not Sammy. Skunt Hunter would not have had a choice but to go to Ramdin. Ramdins inconsistency with the bat is in no small way responsible for the current captaincy quagmire. he gave Hunter a opportunity to play destructive insular games with idiot Sammy.
as far as Sarwan is concerned the only comparative by which he could be in the side is if the choice came down to he and Sammy...as both player and captain. Sarwan is likely a better captain and he has back class as a batsman. but as current batsmen Sammy and Sarwan have proved they both cant bat. Sarwn has lost it. he has been given every opportunity to resurge himself. the wicb cannot be accused of anything in Sarwan's case save the behavior of the coach in the imbroglio after the last ODI WC. Otis works for them after all.
Bharat also has been given every chance. the west indies needed him. he got his chance early and scored. but he has failed ever since due to his own self management or mismanagement.
Bishoo got his chance but has been surpassed by better players..Narine got his chance, but we must concede to difference of opinion on players, especially in light of Shilly success.
Permaul is a wicb fave who has been leap-frogged over better but older potentials. Fudadin made his debut and scored but has competition for a place.
Deonarine is in the side..deo an ordinary player by his own consistent performance, yet often useful in a west indian context like now in India..and NZ
so how in the hell are players of Indo descent being pushed out..of a side that is awash with ordinary players..in desperate need of some class ::confused:: no west indian ethic group is producing players of class as such in the west indies at the moment. whichever group that does should take over the the whole cricket house.
the table is bare the opportunity in front of us all. who will come up in the pot ::confused::
to my mind dat is what allyuh shud be concerned with if allyuh want to take over..produce 3-5 world class players and run off with it all.
all the noise and inaccurate opinions are not backed-up by anything save Narine, and an aging Shive. west indies need world class players. it does not matter who they are as long as they are world class
