The 462-run lead conceded by them against West Indies in the famous Test in Jamaica
in 1958
- in which Garry Sobers hit a then record-365 -
is the highest they have ever conceded in the first innings while batting first.

Just curious - were conditions so very different on day two compared to days one and three?
Day 1 - 227 runs and 13 wickets
Day 2 - 332 runs and 1 wicket
Day 3 - 189 runs and 10 wickets
Aside from Smith and de Villiers, no batsman has yet reached 50, though there's a good chance Misbah will get there.

Gina,
Could not say but the Psychology of it may have made the difference.
Tahir demolished Bangladesh for 99. This allowed the SA openers to ease in an get them in form.....confidence.
It could have been looking at 2-0 had Tahir been selected for the first test. Even the best leg spinners do have bad days.
Day 3 Saffers looking to push ahead and that they did and in so doing lost wickets. Pressure of 418 lead is daunting for the Bangladeshis.
Tahir has made the difference in this test.
When you have two guys scoring 400 runs you really do not complain about the rest as everyone is then trying to score quickly.

As Mail said, psychological mostly. Pakistan just effed it up royally by giving Tahir all those wickets away.
And as for rest of the wickets falling in heap for SA, it's more or less SA having a 'meh, screw this' attitude, they didn't have to put in so much effort or determination, they already had enough on board. That's my assumption.
PS: Mail, *Pakistan bro, not Bangladesh
Bangladesh are doing much better than Pak haha.
