i would have been shot as well
- having someone follow me, would make me nervous/apprehensive. i'd probably keep checking the surroundings. this would be considered suspicious.
- being approached by a stranger, who i believe is following me, would cause me to put up my guard/defensive stance.
- this person is not a police officer. i would not tell them why i am here or where am i going? what if this person is trying mug me, follow me home and rob me?
- if at anytime, this person escalated their voice or took an aggressive posture, i'd be just as aggressive back.
i'd imagine most people would react the same way in that given situation. nothing about that is tough or thuggish.

Me too!!
(Ya Allah!!!!) :
:
see....in his teen-age years my son was one of those hoodies-toting youth!!
hoodies that i bought for him because they were a very practical piece of clothing.....comfy and warm....and fashionable!
he is big and brown-skin and used to walk home at nights .... always wearing his hoodie
i shudder to think what could have happened if we were living in certain neighbourhoods
