--suspect held after showdown in Agricola
BUSINESSMAN Rasheed Wahab, 44, of Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, Georgetown was grazed by a bullet during an armed robbery at the traffic light at the junction of Water Lily Street and Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, on Friday. Police reported that at about 11:00 hrs on Friday, Wahab was in a minibus that had stopped at the traffic lights at that junction when two men on a motorcycle drove up alongside. The pillion rider, who was armed with a firearm, went to the front passenger door and attempted to pull Wahab out of the vehicle, but the minibus driver accelerated and drove off. The armed man then discharged a round at Wahab, which resulted in his receiving a grazed wound to his chest. Following investigations into this matter, police ranks went to Second Street, Agricola, Greater Georgetown at about 16:50 hrs on Friday in search of suspect Terrence John, called ‘Johnny Dog’, 29, of Flour Mill Road, Eccles, who is also a suspect in a number of other robberies, including the armed robbery of the Chronicle Editor-in-Chief Mahendra “Mark†Ramotar on Tuesday night. As the police ranks approached Terrence John, they came under fire. When they returned fire, he was hit to his right leg. An unlicensed .32 pistol with six rounds and one spent shell has since been recovered. Terrence John has been admitted a patient under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital, while Rasheed Wahab was treated at a private hospital and sent away. |
