nancy stories aside I knew a few jamaican Indos here in Canada..Toronto..and deh were very yardie, tight with deh Afro bretheren, but still notably Indian in all ways I have known Indos all my life.

so dat identity thing yu talkin deh doh square with my experience.  nidah does the beat down part.  deh all owned businesses, which was the reason why i knew dem. 

as far as i know its the same in Jamaica.  no Indo is hand to mout'  up in the Yard.  deh are integrated as can be and free from fear and threat from Yardie Afros

not understanding the english language is not really a disadvantage.

the english langauge has been the language of a conqueror and describes all others, especially blac, as the devil.

english slimes its way into the sinews and ramparts of the conscisness of the conquered, colonised and exploited and turn then against themselves in the interest of empire.

english itself is a weapon and a tool against such people.  it is a tool itself used against ordinary english epople as awell who must learn the english of the aristocracy to be able to tell how it is used aginst ordinary english folk.

as a matter of fact at least at popular levels, the generalised and accessible content of western intellectual superstrucutre, relative to all the languages of the european conquerors are built of exploitaive lies and manipulated content historical  and current, that paint pictures that attemt  to buttress status quo at the expense of the exploited.

it follows that if one has an alternative that can defend them against the conquering languages, even gibberish, one's hope for a positive future increases greatly for that alternative can be a languave of liberation..or developed into one by the opressed.

when blac people turn the european languages...english and the others... inside out it is a liberative experience, attempt, effort.  blac people can use english sounding words to speak a whole different language to that of the conqueror.

we have been forced to adopt english as our main language so the less we understand it the better we may be, especially at the bottom levels. 

the idea was that the level of liberation we have achieved so far wud have made it possible to remove it as standards of and for success locally...standards which includes facility in the conquering language as it has always been, unmodified by the experience of independence and the struggle for freedom.

English has  not so been modified and the people are still subject to the depradations on the psyche of unfettered and 'standard' use of the unmodified language of the conqueror

for those who have inkling of wat is involved, and are already hooked and hoisted on the english tenther-hook, it is better to go further, all the way, understand the process and at least try to codify in our favour the language, english in this instance, essentially to correc' it, especially along the lines of resistance developed so far in popular blac culture, to re-invent and receate english in our own image and likeness.

fcuk english otherwise.  there were times I wished I could wipe it out of my consciousness.  but if that is impossible other, better alternatives are not.

to 'know' and speak the language of the man, the conqueror, uncritically. is to be co-opted.

so learning langauge is to thnk like the man, in his mind and work for him, unwittingly, as his interest is not yours and he hates your rass.... intends to eliminate yu if and when he gets the chance.

can anyone envision a more defenceless state a people can be in... to be exposed to your own murder, but cant see it, convinced in your blindness of the opposite by supposedly universalist principles there-in dat really do not apply to you...due to the language yu have learned...language that does not permit yu to see yourself as you truly are in your true relations in existence...particularly your relations to and with your conqueror.
