Not me.....I am so glad I had a guyanese-style wedding.......with the front-yard tent, the whole Jamaat as guests, and every single one of my family member there.
the bandara cooking
the ladies cooking rotis at 5am
making sirnee and mitai
Guyana weddings are very emotional for the girl's families......bitter-sweet.
there were lots of tears of happiness and tears of sadness (in my case because I left Guyana the very next week for Canada) - but generally there is some sadness because traditionally the girls goes off to live with her husband's family which could be far away and you never know if she would be treated well by them.

Yes VB - my mom was picking out the Rukhsati (when the bride leaves her home) song the other night and she almost started crying..
I had to tell her to go pray Isha namaaz and be quiet lol

You know what's weird. My niece married a Muslim. She did the Hindu wedding then reception and then the Muslim. She wore green to the Muslim wedding and red to the Hindu and white to the reception.
Do u know why muslim bride wear green? Well traditionally?.

Guyanese in Canada have become very 'canadianize'.
in NY.....many still do the back-yard wedding.......full Guyanese-style.......even if they have a hall wedding.
