Kevon Payne, a 22-year-old member of the Guyana Coast Guard was last night gunned down not far from his Sussex Street home. Police sources told Stabroek News that at about 9:30 pm Payne called “Scar†was shot five times including once to the chest.
Kevon PayneAccording to the police the shooting was allegedly carried out by two men on CG motorcycles who were engaged in an argument with Payne.
Payne’s relatives and other residents in the area who claim to have witnessed the shooting however had a different version of what occurred. Kevon Payne leaves to mourn his mother, four siblings and two children.
Up to press time police officers were still at the scene conducting investigations.

Former president Donald Ramotar yesterday said that neither he nor the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) was ever close to convicted cash smuggling pilot Khamraj Lall and that all meetings and dealings with him were strictly on a business level.
Ramotar and former Minister of Public Works Robeson Benn also disputed the finding by a recent audit that Lall’s proposal for a private hangar at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) bypassed its board and was expeditiously processed.
“I am in total disagreement of the implying that this man was close to the PPP.

Buoyed by the support of members of his constituency and the ruling coalition, alleged child molester Winston Harding was yesterday sworn in as a councillor of Georgetown, a post he has no intention of resigning.
Responding to questions from Stabroek News after the first meeting of the new council yesterday, Harding indicated that he will not be resigning and has not been asked to do so by the ruling APNU+AFC coalition which he represents.

Former High Commis-sioner of Guyana to Canada Harry Narine Nawbatt has filed a $49M lawsuit against the APNU+AFC government, saying that the terms of his contractual agreement with the PPP/C administration were breached.
