of the people of this country, noting that keen attention will be paid towards
the distribution of resources, wealth and the creation of more opportunities
that will lead towards poverty reduction. The presidential candidate explained that the PPP/C has the
best vision and plan to take Guyana further, pointing out that over the years,
the party has grown strong, matured and understands the needs of its supporters
and the wider electorate.Exuding significant levels of confidence while addressing
the mammoth crowd, Ramotar said that all Guyanese have an obligation to judge
the current PPP/C government based upon its track record, and stated
categorically that the Jagdeo-led administration has worked earnestly to create
an environment of equality, development and unity.

discrimination… I promise you that we will fight and champion for the needs
of all the people of this country as we have been doing… we are a part of all
the people and we will continue to be a government elected by the people, for
the people and to serve the people,†Ramotar insisted.avering desire to improve the country’s overall
infrastructure, further pledging to create more job opportunities, expand
current industries, create new areas for growth and development, fast tracking
the work done in information communication technology while at the same time
fostering unity, peace and ethnic inclusivity at all levels of society.Ramotar, who is also the general secretary of the PPP/C,
spoke extensively about his plan for continuing the work done in the booming
sector of agriculture, stating that a government led by him must be prepared to
work hard to ensure that the needs of farmers, sugar workers, labourers and
other within the sector are met. He said that Guyanese will be given the
necessary tools to tap into markets and create linkages that would see the
country once again becoming the breadbasket of the Caribbean and the wider
world. “We don’t care about your political affiliation when I am president, I
will be president for all the people and we will continue our policy of
equality,†he said. ICT development and
the use of technology are also close to Ramotar’s heart and his commitment to
providing equality opportunities for citizens of the coast, hinterland and
indigenous communities. He believes sternly that he could manage to build on
the progress made in this area and will work towards ensuring that all citizens
become computer literate and are able to exploit the gains, of the modern
technology. He did not fail to outline his approach to education,
mining, fighting corruption and creating the environment for better governance
as well.

PPP/C has worked earnestly and hard for the “fight for democracy and freedom in
Guyana†and was not prepared in any way to compromise. He said that the
principle of equality is birthed out of that of democracy and out of the
struggles of leaders like former presidents Dr Cheddi and Janet Jagan. “We are
now beginning to realise our dreams as a nation and we must work together for
more development…we cannot allow ourselves to become complacent at this
critical time in our history and that’s why it is important for all of us to
vote come Monday to secure our victory… to secure our country’s future…to
secure our freedom,†Ramotar said.He did not forget to heap praises on President Jagdeo,
noting that Jagdeo made it possible for the dreams of many Guyanese to come
through as he alluded to his sound economic, financial and fiscal management of
the country’s affairs. He said that he is satisfied that Jagdeo has been a true
son of soil and led the government in the manner in which its founders had
wanted it to be led.“The future is bright… you will have the final say and you
must not let all of our hard work been thrown away…you must come out and vote
in order for us to continue Jagdeo’s legacy and our job which is not yet
finished in government,†he said.Meanwhile, Presi-dent Jagdeo has again reminded Guyanese of
the need for strong leadership in the years ahead. He said that he is convinced
that Ramotar has what it takes to bring more development to Guyana. Jagdeo,
being his usual self, said that the gains made with respect to equality and
democracy were too important to be left up to the “whims and fancies†of a few
people, and so it was more than important that all Guyanese support Ramotar and
what he referred to as the PPP/C family.Jagdeo said that the work has been done and the PPP/C is
ready for a landslide victory on Monday, telling the thousands gathered that
his party and Donald Ramotar “must take Guyana into its future. A future that
cannot be left up to Granger and Ramjattan… a future that is too important to
be thrown down the drain… a future that could be bright and lead to more
gains for people of this countryâ€. He
said the PPP/C has laid the foundation for dreams to become reality in almost
every area of people’s social, economic and political development.The rally was a hive of energy with Dr Roger Luncheon;
Amerindian Affairs Minister Pauline Sukhai and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds
championing the legacy, track record and achievements of the ruling party much
to be acceptance of the audience. The unity concert was chaired by Agriculture
Minister Robert Persaud. The welcome was delivered by PPP/C executive member
and Housing Minister Irfaan Ali.The gathering was entertained by Caribbean Soca Queen
Destra; Mahendra Kellewanlall; Melissa “Vanilla†Roberts; the Shakti String
Orchestra and the Chutney Sensation, as they blurted out lyrics in support of
the PPP/C. Guyanese left the rally satisfied that the government and PPP/C were
the right choice to continue the progress and development.
